Semester Program Description

A little bit about us:

GRINT – Center for Education and Culture has been offering high quality Russian language and culture classes to international students, teaching staff, and businessmen since 1992. We are a non-commercial educational institution accredited by the Language and Cultural school of the Moscow Government, Department of Education.

Where we are located:

GRINT is located in the eastern part of Moscow in a green area not far from the famous XVII century estate Kuskovo which is well known for its park and lakes. Our school is situated on the campus of Moscow University for the Humanities with everything necessary for fruitful academic experience (dormitories, cafeteria, swimming pool, gym, etc.) It takes just 29 minutes from our metro station to arrive to Red Square, the very center of Moscow.

What we offer:

Studied Russian for years? Can't say a single word? GRINT offers small group language study for all levels (Beginner to Advanced)! You’ll get 15 hours of language study per week when you study with us and all of our classes are designed to meet ACTFL standards with our teaching methodology. Classes typically start from 10.00a.m. to 2.00pm. Monday through Friday.

In addition to Russian language classes, we offer the opportunity to take lecture classes in English on a variety of subjects concerning Russia. The two lecture classes for the upcoming Spring 2010 semester will be ‘Russian Politics’ and ‘Russian Civilization.’ Click here to see lecture topics.

Of course, not everything about Russia can be learned by simply sitting in class. That’s why each week we offer cultural events which give our students a way to experience Russia on a first hand basis. Each week, we take our students to two cultural events ranging from concerts, theaters, operas, ballets, The Moscow Circus, and sporting events once during a weekday and the other on the weekend. These events are all included at no extra cost for our students.

In addition, we take students outside of Moscow to see other parts of Russia. Last semester we offered students the opportunity to visit Saint Petersburg, Russia’s most European city. This semester, Spring 2010, a mid-term 4 to 5 days tour will be taken to the city of Kazan, an often overlooked city by tourists with a very important history. In addition, each semester, we visit Russia’s famous Golden Ring towns.

Who will teach me?

One of the most important things to consider when looking at any academic experience is who will be teaching you. GRINT is proud to employ a highly experienced teaching staff of fifteen teachers, most of whom have over twenty years experience teaching Russian to foreigners. All teachers hold master's degrees from Russian Universities and are highly educated and very capable to teach you. Some of our teachers are also published textbook authors.

A little bit about our head teacher:

Margarita Aganina, the head teacher for GRINT since 2003, graduated from the Philology Department of Moscow Lomonosov State University with a degree in teaching Russian as a Foreign Language with additional studies in foreign languages. Margarita has also worked as the head teacher at the famous Pushkin State Language Institute.

Where will I live and what will I eat?

Our students are offered two options for housing:

Either in dual occupancy rooms located on campus in our university’s recently renovated dormitory with internet access
Or in an apartment at one of our homestays.

Russia has a lot to offer as far as food goes. Enjoy some of the best soups in the world along with other tasty dishes. Homestay students are offered breakfast 7 days a week while both breakfast and lunch are provided for our dormitory students at our campus cafeteria. Don’t like the mass re-heated cafeteria food at your university back home? No problem! Each day, food is freshly prepared and cooked by our cafeteria staff. Enjoy homemade style cooking the Russian way! Homestay students can also take at vantage of the on-campus university out of pocket at very reasonable prices.

Don’t I need a Visa and what about that thing I heard called registration?

Grint will do all the necessary paperwork for you to receive a student visa and register you locally at no extra cost.

Optional exams: Your chance to shine!

Grint provides students the opportunity to take the optional TORFL exam – the State Examination on Russian Language for Foreigners - at the end of the course at no extra charge. In brief, this is a Russian style exam similar to the TOEFL. Previous students have found this to be a valuable thing to put on a resume. We agree, because it shows you your competency level and what it allows you to do in Russia!

But wait! I still have questions!

Contact us now and we will be happy to answer your questions.
