The course consists of 12 lectures/seminars.The class meets weekly. Main topics: 1. Reforms of Alexander II 2. Reforms and counter reforms of Alexander III 3. Saving the monarchy – rule of Nicholas II 4. Crossroads of the revolutions: 1905 5. Revolution – February 1917 (Ideals and reality) 6. Revolution – October 1917 7. Soviet modernization of the 1920-30's – projects and results 8. N. Khrushchev and his reforms 9. M. Gorbachev – Era of Perestroika. 10. Post-soviet reforms and public discussions of 1991-93, 1996, 1999. 11-12. Contemporary projects and plans of modernization in Russian politics and social life - V. Putin and D. Medvedev. |
